I'm on the left, and my friend that was my "date" to prom is on the right.
We are both huge band geeks so it was only natural that our prom dresses be homemade using parts of the old band uniforms. The band is getting new uniforms next year, so our band teacher let us buy one to make prom dresses out of. See the uniforms here:
[link]My friend used the bulk of the jacket to make her top, and cut up the cumber bun for the inside. She already had the outer skirt, but it was a little too short for her so I made the inner skirt for her.
My dress is made from scratch. It is all black silk except for the band uniform parts. The front chest part is made from the middle of the jacket where the buttons are, and the back(which you can't see) is part of the stripe of the pant leg. The "roses" were originally going to be made from the dickey, but there wasn't enough fabric, so I made them out of ribbon instead. The little orange "vine-things" around the roses are made from the frog knots, which you can see on the jacket.
We also made each other's corsages, which I might post separately.
We waited til the last minute to make them and I was working on mine up until the last few hours before prom, but it was worth it. I think many of the administrators at the dance were more amused by our dresses than the students.
